Bungawarra Wines Gewurztraminer 2018

Bungawarra is a label worth keeping an eye on now even more so that Tom Battle has come on board. A local Granite Belt product himself, Battle is a clever operator. His ability is clear with this his first Gewurz release for his new venture.

Having cut his teeth at Symphony Hill as assistant winemaker, Battle has more scope at Bungawarra since he made the move in recent years. Owner Jeff Harden is still present but slowly stepping back. Battle's new approach is evident with this wine as he has fermented the fruit with a new yeast not previously used by Harden.

There's a wonderful balance between the aromatics and fruit in this wine. Lavender, purple flowers and hint of marigold flower plus apricot nectar build some very appealing aromas. Add the expected rose water scents, too, and the welcome mat is certainly rolled out. Dry to taste with well balanced acidity, the fruit is not overly powerful. It steadily gains momentum with a delicate spice caressing the mouth on close. This deft touch oozes verandah appeal as the sun falls from the sky.

Drink now to five years.
