I was saddened to hear that fire ripped through the kitchen at Balgownie's Yarra Valley Estate a few days ago. Thankfully no one was injured but there was severe damage through the building. All this when the hospitality industry is already struggling in these Covid times.
This Viognier comes from Balgownie Estate's Bendigo vineyards and is their first release of the variety since 2010.
Quite an easy wine to enjoy. There's some good body about it. Varietal characters of apricots and apricot nectar shining the light. It's those characters that are quite concentrated too which pegged it back a little for mine. A nutty presence and ginger spice add savoury appeal. Creamy through the mid-palate, the length kicks on much longer than expected. Overall, good stuff.
Drink to five years.
