Dense but with rounded edges, this is a great Shiraz from Heathcote and I just want in. This Reserve is a step up from its sibling in the range, and you'd be forgiven for getting very comfortable here.
The gold font on the label stands out and offers excellent shelf presence in my opinion. Coupled with the wax seal (diam used), it's a very well-presented package.
Made in the same way as its sibling, the quality of the fruit is better here - barrel selection at its best. Hand-picked, 30% whole bunch pressed, it sees French oak for 10 months.
Big love for the depth, it possesses a super dark appearance with a brightish hue. Earthy from the Cambrian soil, scents of oyster sauce, dark chocolate and caramel slice get my attention early. Blackberries, black cherries and beef jus are the main drivers with soft dried herbs, licorice and a fine sprinkling of black pepper. There is a brash aspect to its personality early on that I find endearing yet it certainly comes across more composed and more delicate the longer it sits. It's the type of wine that asks more questions each time you go back for more - winning! Above all, this shows the quality that Heathcote can deliver. Bravo!
