A 2021 release for $35 sounds like an enticing deal but I found this Auld Family Wines Wilberforce Cabernet Shiraz a bit so-so. Given every chance to shine over a couple of days of tasting, it didn't want to come and play.
The Cabernet component (percentage unknown) sits in the driver's seat showing blackberries and blackcurrants. Add plums, smoked meats and dark chocolate with some mint and cedar sliding in underneath aided by sage and dried thyme. Baking spices wrap around on close and cling to a persistent finish. All the elements are there but some lift and energy would be welcome.
Drink to eight years.
