Tasted alongside the Varney Wines E.O.I. Arinto 2024, this Lino Ramble Dot to Dot Arinto is a clean-cut expression made to produce a light, fresh and fruit-driven style - an objective that was certainly achieved. This has a splendid Sunday session appeal.
Both samples were sent together to showcase the fact that they came from the same site and were harvested on the same date but were at the mercy of two different winemakers.
Planted in 2018, the vineyard in Blewitt Springs makes the most of its elevated position with cooler nights from the sea breezes coming off the Gulf of St Vincent. Curiously, it is said that these vines use a fraction of the water compared to the Shiraz on the adjacent block. The vines dig their feet into a mix of quartzite, sandstone and siltstone soils.
Golden apple, canned pear juice, custard apple, white-fleshed peach, ribbons of ginger and cinnamon roll out with ease. A delightful green tea tannin profile is a welcome point of difference. Fleshy with an attractive length and width, bright acidity brings the mouth to water. Well made, it's a beautiful drink and one I'd enthusiastically recommend.
Drink to three years.
