A big framed GSM from Curtis, this Cavaliere made some positive moves early on.
It's a wine that certainly showed better on the second day of tasting. Opening with cherry liqueur, raspberries, blackberries and blueberry compote, there was a pleasing shape and flow to match its heft. Add some tar, earthiness, brown spices and shards of dark chocolate and things were ticking away nicely. That spice looms up and gains momentum on the finish, but then a gradual increase in some mouth warmth detracts from the good work done prior. A lemony tang from the acid did its bit to pull things back once again. A 2021 release, perhaps some more time in a dark place will help this mesh together that little bit more?
