Matt Burton's take on the classic Hunter River Burgundy, but in this case, he blends Canberra Shiraz and Yarra Valley Pinot Noir (80/20). Wonderfully balanced, it's a great wine with respectable impact.
Swirl the glass and the Pinot does all the talking - dried leaves, twigs, Negroni things and strawberries. The spicy Canberra Shiraz component can't be missed with its generous dark berry fruit presence.
The two parcels fold into one another continuously adding terrific interest to the broad frame. Medium bodied, the length just draws out much longer than expected.
A very tidy drink now for those who enjoy a spice kick, it will continue to age gracefully for many years yet.
