The mere mention of the Kiss Shiraz brings a noticeable quiver to Andrew Thomas' voice. He loves this patch like a child, and knowing what is coming, perhaps it squeezes a touch more emotion. But that's a story for another day... This 2023 Kiss is absolutely magnificent.
When you consider the top tier of Hunter Valley Shiraz, this and one other provide supreme bang for buck. Sure, the bigger brands command more $$$, but if quality, ageability and exceptional winemaking are what you seek, look no further.
Vibrant and squishy blueberries, mulberries, satsuma plums and a flicker of red currants, cola, tilled earth, black tea and dark chocolate all put their shoulder to the wheel adding definition, shape and character. Pretty dried purple flowers add an attractive scent that keeps drawing you closer. And that's probably the key element, the veneers of interest don't let up and the interest continues to unfurl. The suggestion of Black Forest cake sits in the background but the standout feature once again is the dense concentration and coiled tension of this medium-bodied treasure. A class act to dine out on, go here before it will never be seen again, and sadly, I mean that quite literally...
