Big love for this Dam Block Shiraz from Thomas Wines. What a cracker! There is a measured punch under its medium-bodied guise and it possesses an incredible gravitational pull. Fabulously delicious, large pours are hard to dodge.
The Dam Block has continued to build a fine reputation for itself and it's a wine that I feel has quietly grown in stature in recent years.
A stone's throw from the famed Kiss block, this unirrigated site delivers plenty of concentration.
Juicy blueberries, boysenberries, redcurrants and plums fill the mouth effortlessly yet leave a delicious stain of moreishness. Pretty scents of dried purple flowers diffuse from the glass and add a terrific mouth perfume. But those gentle waves of blue fruit are relentless as puffy cocoa like tannins coat the palate. Andrew Thomas is a mad Sydney Swans mad fan, and he'd be happy to acknowledge that this has more length than a Buddy Franklin kick from 50 out.
