Blue Pyrenees Richardson Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

The flagship of the Blue Pyrenees range, this Cabernet is certainly youthful.

It's a wine that needs a lie down - you won't see it at its best for a while yet. Scents of dried thyme, camphor, mint, blackberries and black earth pique my interest early. Time in the glass sees plummy fruit lurch forward laced with touches of cedar. Still tense after a couple of days tasting, a stemmy character and leafiness can be seen but this is more about its youth than being a fault. Mind you, in a line up of Cabernets, curiously, this showed the least Cabernet form. A wine made for the long haul, chocolate and oak gain momentum as time passes. Members are rewarded handsomely paying only $45 - a severe discount compared to the RRP. Stick this in a dark place and I'm confident you'll see the caterpillar transform into a butterfly in years to come.
