Brilliant! In a line up of five Cabernets on the bench, this was a cut above and then some schooling the rest with ease.
Handpicked from unirrigated vines planted in 1973. A blend of 88% Cabernet with Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot (5.5/3.5/3) spending 18 months in French barriques - half of which were new.
Choc-mint and cedar get my attention immediately. That Margaret River Bay Leaf swings into gear also shaded by some eucalypt. Tobacco and black olive ride on the coat tails of black currant and dark berry fruits. The fruit just slides through the mouth with absolute class. A persistent and seemingly never-ending finish is framed by soft and almost powdery tannins. The presence, the balance, just wow!
