Off free draining Canterbury gravels, close planted vines sit in the shadow of the Three Deans mountain range. Seeing 19 months in oak, granite like feels meet volcanic soils to taste. A fair bit riper than what you'd expect for a Syrah (14.5%), there's some depth and density there. Dark plummy fruit and blackberries and leans towards a heavy Pinot of sorts. It feels warm and seems a bit reductive too before dried herbs rush late. You can see where winemaker Kirk Bray wants to go with this so it'd be worth keeping an eye on subsequent vintages.
Drink to 5 years.
