Measured, there is delicacy mixed with sophistication. Give it a chance to breathe and watch it bloom. It's a great expression of Tasmanian Pinot Noir.
This is Barringwood's first harvest off the Cranbrook Vineyard which lies on the east coast. Nine hectares was planted but the rest is a merino farm dating back to the 1840s. I suspect in the years to come there will be less merino and more Pinot given the quality of the debut here.
Dark plums, blackcurrants, dark red cherries and a salivating savoury presence, there is plenty to ponder. Dried leaves, puffs of earth, undergrowth and sauteed mushrooms chime in too. The fruit is fleshy and walks with purpose. Red apple skin and some vibrant acidity make their more on a long and delicious finish. A more than respectable debut for this vineyard.
Drink to eight years.
