Yelland and Papps Greenock Shiraz 2020

If you love your Barossa wines you ought to make a beeline to Yelland and Papps. Open by appointment only, just make the appointment. The layers and detail in their wines are always intriguing. This single vineyard Shiraz sourced from Greenock is no different.

It opens with char and barbecued meats, soy and a hint of oyster sauce, there is plenty of charcuterie and pan juices to match those meaty dishes you'd pair alongside it. Dense plums and dark chocolate feature prominently, too, as you'd expect given the dirt of its origin. The oak is handled beautifully and plays very much a secondary role albeit some vanilla and cedar give a polite nod. Only 13.4%, soft spices are sprinkled atop a generous palate that keeps washing over between fruit and spice - brilliant! The striking feature here is the dead smooth delivery - melted chocolate like. Most approachable now, this will age a treat too. All up, this is a bit bloody awesome.
