I like this. A lot. Here we have Clare Valley Fiano from Miss Zilm showing it can play alongside the Riesling contingent that the region is so well known for.
Seven years ago Fiano was grafted onto a 30-year-old Riesling block. This is Keeda Zilm's third release of this wine and she continues her exploration of it by making a wine from several small batches which includes portions that see seasoned oak, clarified and non-clarified juice as well as extended time on lees.
This 2023 is an expressive release. Lashings of yellow stonefruit combine with fleshy pears and a zap of yellow grapefruit. There's a lemony tang that brings energy along with tonic feels that elevates its appeal via a fabulous textural presence. A seaspray cameo shoots through like a meteorite disappearing in seconds but that glimpse was enough to build curiosity. Well-balanced acid on a long and moreish finish brings the mouth to water. It's an eventful wine that urges another glass. Bravo.
