This is a really cool wine. It's the first time I have seen the wines from Geographe's Green Door Wines and I'm thrilled to have been introduced to them. Both the Fiano and now this Tempranillo have impressed to no end. Both fermented in amphora, they are worth tracking down.
Once fermentation was completed in amphora, it saw 12 months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak.
It delights the eye with a glossy sheen, not to mention it feels great to taste. A dried red flower perfume develops fabulously the longer it sits in the glass. Awash with dark cherries, plums and a dash of blackberries, savoury delights take hold in the form of passata, pan juices and shards of dark chocolate. Drying and sapping tannins leave a trail of powder to muse over. And that length! This is a very smart Tempranillo.
