A licence to thrill. I do adore the Tyrrell's HVD but this Tyrrell's Vat 47 is a killer.
I was judging at the Orange Wine Show this week where the district's Chardonnay class is always strong. Subsequent conversations between some of the judges naturally came back to Chardonnays from across the country. For my two bob, I added that the Hunter Valley Chardonnays were severely underrated and the two Tyrrell's wines mentioned are perfect examples. Sure, many lean towards cool climate examples, but grab at Vat 47 and tell me your experience wasn't heavenly.
A wicked opening of lemons and pink grapefruit unfurls gracefully. Fine boned, the purity is irresistibly moreish. A measured tension lures you closer with lemon sorbet, pineapple husk, nougat and some lemon zest. I keep circling back to the purity on offer. A cut above, it's absolutely sublime.
