Highland Heritage Patrono Shiraz 2015

This is one of two flagship wines to celebrate 70 years of winemaking in the region. The other is the Patrono Cabernet Sauvignon 2015.

An inviting wine when I take a whiff. Dark berry fruit, black earth, char and pan juices with a minerally twang. There's a pretty dried red flower lift too. Cracked pepper in the mouth but the mid palate has gone MIA. It's a donut wine of sorts - has a hole in the middle. Delivery is warmish, thin and watery - not what I was expecting based on the aromas.  Acid is frisky but should settle in with time in bottle.

I'd be interested to see how time treats it, but for now and of the two, I prefer the Patrono Cabernet.

Drink now to eight years.
