Yelland and Papps Brumeux Rousanne 2022

More funk than Funky Cold Medina and more layers than those Instagram rainbow layer cakes, this is an absolute joy to drink. Cool, considered, and edgy, it's a wine that hits the high hats time and again.

This label has taken on a facelift. Formerly known as the Second Take, despite a new name it delivers the same quality and interest in spades. Those not across their French would be pleased to know that Brumeux means hazy or foggy - precisely the appearance of the wine in your glass due to the fact it is not fined nor filtered prior to bottling.

If anyone has mastered the art of getting Roussanne to taste like ginger beer, this is your lead contender. My first whiff and taste had my mind racing there immediately. Insanely delicious, and in true Yelland & Papps style, the layers of pleasure appear to be unstoppable as they relentlessly peruse your favour.

Ginger beer, lemon myrtle, lemon balm and old-school lemonade set the tone. The balance is en-pointe as the lemony drive is followed up by some vanilla cream. Pear juice and white peach roll through with ease. Reaching long, the sustained finish leaves plenty to muse over. A cool evening, some cheese, the one you love and a few glasses of this = bliss.

Drink to eight years.
