Harvested two weeks later than previous years, the wet vintage impacted the fruit resulting in this Soumah Upper Ngumby Pinot Noir coming in leaner than those I've seen before. Despite this, it possesses a tighter focus and mid-palate.
100% whole bunch fermented and seeing a mix of old and new French oak, this is less expressive and complex than the Hexham.
Strawberries and plums drive the fruit profile with a so-so savoury drive that almost feels obligated to engage. An array of spices on close are tense and give the a sense they don't want to reveal their secrets just yet. Given the choice, I'd take the Hexham.
