Usher Tinkler Reserve Shiraz 2022

I've shared bottles of this Usher Tinkler Reserve Shiraz in the past but to my surprise, I have not reviewed it til now. Vivid memories of fireside chats and a large charcuterie board in the Hunter Valley a few years ago come racing back. Good times. This 2022 release is a fabulous wine.

Sourced from three vineyards (vine age 50-80 years), the fruit was whole berry fermented and then sent to large format oak for ten months. The best barrels made their way into this Reserve Shiraz. The striking feature for me with this release is the tension that draws you closer. Over a few days of tasting it demonstrated its ability to age.

Red cherries and chocolate-dipped raspberries seek your attention early with an earthy grip to remind you of the soils on which it was grown. Sour cherries and red apple skin build the courage to step forward with time in the glass. Its true calibre is showcased when the black cherries and a little blackberry arrive. Soft touches of vanilla are bound by ribbons of fine spices adding a classy touch on a long and rewarding finish. A fire pit, slow cooked brisket or a wedge of dark chocolate in the side of your mouth, all bases are covered.
