Oh my. This Hunter River Burgundy thing is absolutely brilliant when done well. First crafted by Maurice O'Shea in 1937, it has become trendy again, particularly over the last decade. A seductive blend of Shiraz and Pinot Noir, go here. This is ace.
Dripping with purple berries and dark cherries, it's sleek, measured and incredibly delicious. Roughly a 80/20 blend, its medium-bodied frame makes it so attractive as layers of interest peel back with ease. Red plums, char, smoked meats, earthiness with dried Mediterranean herbs scattered about with what appears some deliberate accuracy. Pretty scents of red and purple flowers diffuse gaining momentum with more time in the glass. The acid has a little crunch but is shaped precisely. And the length! Yes! Silky and dangerously approachable, this will age well but it's hard to resist its beauty. Dive in with confidence.
