From a challenging year, this Soumah Hexham Vineyard shines brightly. Give me a glass with the cool evening breeze brushing my face as the sun dips below the horizon. Top stuff.
The Hexham Vineyard is adjacent to the Soumah cellar door with three clones in the ground (MV6, 115, D4V2). From a wet year, the fruit was harvested two weeks later than in previous years and it saw 25% new French oak.
Dark cherries, plums, a cheeky touch of blackberries plus eucalypt and mint steadily build their case. Dried leaves, twigs, pan juices and strawberries settle in. It's the depth and complexity that I find striking and that lures you closer. A lick of warmth slides in late as those spices run deep. A beautiful Pinot Noir.
