Svelte, silky and lacy, these new releases from White Gate Wine Co are lo-fi wines done very well. Dancy and vibey, the freshness is evident. This Otto is a blend of Grenache, Mataro and Cabernet (60/26/14) and it is moreish deluxe.
Whole bunch Grenache, whole berry Mataro and Cabernet are fused together with wild yeast and see some time in seasoned French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
I see Chad Connelly as a better red wine maker than white and this proves my theory once again - but I'm happy to be wrong. His wines speak of personality and joy with this latest bunch expressive and oozing interest.
Violets, blueberries and boysenberries cascade from the glass. It's earthy with flecks of charcoal and flanked by dark chocolate, blackcurrant jubes and the pitter-patter of fine spices.
A wine with a respectable length, this is absolutely fabulous on its own or throw it beside a rack of sticky barbecue ribs or some burgers. Great stuff.
Drink to five years.
