A little more dense and weighty than the White Gate Wine Co Grenache and Otto that I've seen in this current batch of releases, this Curio is a classic barbecue wine and the grenade-esque bottle makes it that little bit easier to throw under the arm for a social occasion.
Cabernet, Mataro and Syrah and brought together (50/30/20) and are wild yeast fermented before spending some time in seasoned French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Char and meat jus aromas leap out with blackberries and dark plums in hot pursuit. Some stewed fruit peers through but the meaty presence cannot be denied. Blueberries and licorice build some good momentum. A wine that doesn't want to be taken too seriously, I love its relaxed and chilled vibes. Tick!
