Camino Wine Co Centenary Vines Grenache 2023

Experienced winemaker Jason Barrette has released his own range of wines under the Camino Wine Co banner. Sourced from some respectable sites, this Grenache immediately caught my attention coming off 1912 planted centenarian vines. What an excellent debut!

The Lyndoch vineyard is located in the southern Barossa and the clay based soils of the area make themselves known. Twenty-five percent whole bunches were used and the finished wine was not fined or filtered.

Pretty aromas of red petals and roses light the stage with raspberries, baked rhubarb, strawberries, raspberry rope, red cherries and cherry pip bringing the energy. Suggestions of raspberry coulis add further delight. There is a tension that builds shape and points to some longevity as super fine tannins add structure and length. I often pick up a silty type feels with southern Barossa Grenache due to that clay and it rears its head once more here. Above all, there is a lot to like here. A cracking entrance for this new label. Give me more.
