Angove The Medhyk Shiraz 2016

Medhyk is the Cornish spelling for doctor. Best you take the medicine this doctor prescribed - a superb example of McLaren Vale Shiraz.

Sourced from three sites, there's some solid pedigree in this bottle. The Warboys vineyard (90+ years old) comes from deep loam soils and contributed small concentrated volumes. The Swann vineyard (planted 1956/57) is fruitful and expressive along with the Cameron Block from Willunga (70 years) which adds rich, succulent and ripe fruit. All parcels were handpicked and saw large format oak for 14-16 months prior to blending.

Winemaker Tony Ingle says, "Wine helps you remember people and experiences." It sure does. For Ingle, this wine reminds him of his son - his son helped him make this release.

Generous dark berries and plums are wrapped in a parcel of cedar, dark chocolate and black earth. Super smooth and luscious fruit oozes charisma reaching every crevice of the mouth with ease. Dashes of raspberry sneak up at the death before a tingle of exotic spice lingers on a sustained and moreish finish. A classy wine that will only improve with bottle age.
