As part of a new tasting experience at the Woodstock cellar door, three fortifieds and a Botrytis have been matched with Haigh's Chocolates. You had me at chocolate!
Vintage Cabernet was fortified with grape spirit and for this tasting was matched with 70% dark chocolate pastilles. Those pastilles were addictive and far too easy to keep throwing down the hatch.
Tense, this is the furrowed brow type with the look of concentration and determination about it. With a focused mid-palate and some warmth, it's nutty with licorice, mandarin peel and oranges. Blackcurrants and sultanas swarm drive home a long deal with dusty tannins to close. The chocolate match nailed it.
