Quite a different wine to its 1880 Vines Old Hill sibling, there is more intensity and depth with this 1921 Vines Old Paddock Shiraz.
Still tense keeping its secrets close, it opens with dark cherries, red plums, char and some heft. It lands and sticks filling out the mid-palate. Give it a swirl and see black pepper and even a shimmer of cola emerge. There is a lot to love and admire about the delicate spice. Edging on black fruit at this early stage, this is going somewhere but it's not quite ready to show its hand. Tannins are firm and a little dusty, but be patient, this will glisten in a few more years.
