Becoming a grandfather has certainly softened Tim Smith. He only used to make a Riesling and Viognier. Now he's blending white and making a Rosé. Who is this guy?
Drink this though. It's good. Very good! I feel all levels of Parisian drinking it. Classy and then some.
"It's a blend of my favourite white varietals," Smith tells me referring to Clairette, Viognier, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne.
It screams for a cheeseboard and sunsets. Wonderfully textured yet silky through the mouth, super fine white pepper and cinnamon spices hum. Scents of yellow flowers, a flicker of honey, it's a shapely white that walks with charisma. Rounded edges flank the fleshy yellow stonefruit with a gentle apricot push. A subtle nuttiness and even the hint of nougat make a play for attention.
Thoughtful, considered, good company - much like its maker. A great drink.
Drink to three years.
