I wish Sparkling Shiraz wasn't made out to be a one-trick pony, that is, drink it only at Christmas. It's a fabulous drink that's so versatile and a beacon shining bright in the Australian wine landscape. This release from Turkey Flat is a beauty. Fill me up.
The base wine is created from a Solera system with an average age of 3 years. After tirage, it spends up to 24 months on lees. Pedro Ximènez is added following disgorgement.
Blueberries, squishy mulberries and shards of dark chocolate light up the stage from the outset. Licks of cedar, caramel and five spice add detail along with some earthiness. There is great energy from the fizz and a tremendous silky presence and mouthfeel. Persistent, the elongated finish is moreish and then some. Big love and highly recommended!
