Another left-field punt by White Gate Wine Co and it has come off nicely. This Curio is a Cabernet/Mataro/Syrah blend that brings some heavy hitters together to deliver a wine with lift and vibrance.
A 50/30/20 blend, the fruit was picked a little earlier, wild yeast fermented, basket pressed and it sees seasoned oak. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The freshness cannot be denied and there is a vegetal and herby drive initially. Pretty scents of blue flowers work away nicely. Mulberries and blueberries team up with some dark chocolate and pan juices sliding in late. Fine spices and slippery tannins roll out to a long finish that has good shape - a roundness of sorts. Give it some time in the glass or a decant to see it at its best.
