A very tidy Riesling with a little more volume compared to those energised and sizzling types, but the shape is the endearing feature here I feel. This Duchess from Wild Game Wines was sourced from Mt Gambier, just south of their Coonawarra base.
It opens with golden apple and pie apple with plenty of lemon zest and preserved lemons bursting through. Scents of little white flowers and gardenias add prettiness. The acid shows some tension and points to a wine that will be sure to age nicely. A little weight through the mid-palate is a feature with some limestone minerality feathered throughout and green tea tannins clinging to a memorable finish. It's really well done.
