Patrick of Coonawarra Home Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Pour this Single Vineyard Cabernet in your glass, recline and embrace the glory of what Coonawarra does best.

It sees two years in French oak and another three years in bottle before release. Fine sheets of savoury detail wrap themselves around a core of dark fruit. Blackberries and blackcurrants, licorice, dark chocolate and a nougat/caramel thing that makes me think of a Mars bar. Roasted peppers, dried mint and an earthy drive continue to deliver intrigue and pleasure. Powdery tannins tense up and give a quiet nod to its ageing potential - this will ride out another decade with ease.

Cabernet is synonymous with lamb pairing, and that's all I can think about. Those mini lamb roasts from the butcher, to be precise. Delightful drinking, it's an enthusiastic recommendation from me.
