From the first pour, raspberries, strawberries, meaty things and char do the hard work and make a positive first impression. I was expecting the fruit to demonstrate more lift and exuberance, given the large Grenache component. Instead, the fruit comes across riper, delivering a surprising weighty mouthfeel despite the 13.5% alcohol. Touriga often brings a flurry of pretty purple florals, but I'm not seeing that lift. Silty tannins make me think the fruit has been sourced from the southern Barossa, adding to the wine's savoury and structured feel. I suspect this blend will be better with food.
