The Wynns Coonawarra Black Label has built an excellent reputation as a wine cellar staple, and this 2024 release keeps the flame flickering bright.
Made from the top 20-25% of Cabernet Sauvignon grown on the Wynns Terra Rossa soils, it sees French oak for 17 months (28% new).
It's long term promise is evident from the outset as it displays a tense presence in the mouth. Layered and complex as ever, the structure, flow and shape echo all that is great about Coonawarra Cabernet. Blackberries and black currants are interwoven with hallmark choc mint, some orange peel, plus aniseed and fennel, as delicate sarsaparilla and cola nuances ripple through. With time in the glass, and after a few days of tasting, dried herbs and cloves slowly reveal themselves. A fine veil of tannin caps things off in style with poise and confidence. It's a most impressive release and one that will reward ageing.
