We are getting to the top of the Wynns range with the V&A Lane wines, but this Shiraz doesn't have the complexity I'd hope for, particularly at the price point. Sure, it's a good enough drink, but I'd like a little more desire and focus for my $60.
What stood out on tasting was how the fruit thins out sooner than expected. Cherry cola, red currants, plums and dark chocolate go about their work, but I was curious to note that it comes in at 12.6% alcohol. The flow through to the back palate is halted, and the reins seem to be pulled. Firm spices do their best to kick up the tempo, and brick dust tannins are sprayed through the mouth, but I felt something was amiss, and that could simply be vintage variation.
