I love the weight and flow of this Chardonnay from First Drop Wines.
Hand-picked and whole bunch pressed, it sees 50% new French oak for nine months, of which 50% went through malolactic fermentation.
Aromas of flint, gunsmoke, vanilla, custard powder and white-fleshed stonefruit greet you, flowing neatly and seamlessly to the palate. Add brioche, flickers of hazelnut and soft ripples of ginger spice, and you have a mighty fine Chardonnay on your hands. A composed tonic-like texture makes its mark and a drop of lemon juice plants itself on close. It's very well done.
