Opening with big, muscular and robust aromas, this Montepulciano from First Drop wines has already seven years under its belt.
My first impression is how ripe this is. Aromas of Christmas cake, fruit cake along with rum and raisin consume the opening. Some notes of cedar cut in too. But just as I expected the flavour profile to be just as big and rich, it delivers a wine that is silky to taste. Curiously, the aroma profile and the palate are polar opposites. Dark cherries, plums and dark chocolate put their shoulder to the wheel with a shimmer of fine spices driving to a long and persistent finish. I suspect this will age comfortably for at least another five years.
