Montalto The Eleven Chardonnay 2022

I loved the Tuerong deluxe but this Eleven is not far behind. Packed with interest and drive, I'm sharing this with no one. Another excellent Chardonnay from Montalto.

Planted in 1986, this is the oldest block at Montalto. Sitting 106 metres above on red clay soils, these eleven rows of vines are located outside the cellar door.

Whole bunch pressed and sent to French oak (28.6% new no less) with some solids, wild yeast fermentation took place along with 100% MLF. After eleven months in barrel it was blended and bottled.

Lemons and lemonade, caramel and butterscotch - come at me. Add some wafers, nougat and a fine cashew nuttiness, it's a wine that exudes class. Time in the glass sees white fleshed nectarines and white fleshed peaches build some gravitating momentum. A delicate ripple of ginger draws out to a long and incredibly moreish finish that offers another nod to that citrus opening. Superb stuff. Yes!

Drink to eight years.
