A blend of Yarra Valley finesse and the richness of Heathcote, this Soumah Thomas Hendy cut brings together Syrah, Cabernet and Nebbiolo. Despite being an odd bunch, the blend works extremely well.
An inviting opening greets you with open arms. Loaded with dried red and purple florals plus drunken cherries, the aromas develop wonderfully in the glass. Licorice, steak burnt ends and cured meat play large roles as the fruit consumes the mouth. The presence of Cabernet is obvious as is the prettiness that comes from the cool climate Syrah. There is no surprise that the drying and powdery tannins are courtesy of the Nebbiolo. Its mouthfeel and easygoing persona make this a great wine to turn to on a cool afternoon or evening with a memorable long and persistent finish. Nicely done.
Drink to eight years.
