Curvacious, I'm a big fan of the shape of this wine. Not shy on generosity, hold this for a few more years to see it at its best.
Cuttings were taken from the famed Mount Edelstone to establish Hutton Vale Farm in the 1960s. From a vintage that delivered below-average yields, winemakers across the district were pleased with the quality no less.
Handpicked and destemmed, the fruit was fermented over ten days and pumped over twice a day. It saw French oak for 24 months (30% new) before another two years in bottle.
Rum 'n' raisin, cedar, dense plums and shimmers of licorice make an early statement. Baking spices are scattered about with an endless shimmer of fine spices rippling through. Incredibly persistent, I found this built some marvellous momentum over a few days of tasting. Be patient and be rewarded.
