The thing that strikes me about these First Ridge Wines is the consistency across the range. Well made with interest, they are reasonably priced too. This Sangiovese showcases all its varietal traits making it very enjoyable and then some.
It sees French oak for eight months and that can be seen through the vanilla that is imparted. Dangerously silky, dark cherries and a lick of strawberries entice with a steak rub spice reaching long. A wine that slowly dries out, some chocolate sneaks into the frame. Fine tannins are dusty and are scattered liberally through the mouth with a red apple acid crunch on close. It's very enjoyable and will level up once more in the right company.
Drink to five years.
