For $48 this Hazeldene is elite. If you are a Chardonnay lover, there is something for everyone in the Oakridge Vineyard Series. From the first whiff, I just want in!
From a low-yielding vintage, the fruit was handpicked before being whole bunch pressed and sent to French oak puncheons for barrel fermentation with 10 months on lees.
Flint and vanilla aromas kick start an inviting wine that presents in the lean style that Oakridge does so incredibly well. The fruit is pristine with an electric grapefruit drive. White fleshed nectarines sing and sit at the core with a subtle nuttiness and almond meal. Lemon juice builds some delicious momentum but that surge of grapefruit cannot be undone. Wonderfully balanced with that complexity being drip-fed, lemon juice and that tang have the last word. Superb stuff.
Drink to eight years.
