Turkey Flat Grenache 2022

The winds of change have started to shift through Turkey Flat with this 2022 Grenache release hitting different to those that have come before. Not perched at the lofty heights that we have come know but it is still a very good drink.

2022 was the last vintage with Mark Bulman at the helm and this Grenache was picked at 12 Baume. As a result, the tannin is more obvious and obtrusive. James Adams has taken the reins from 2023 onwards and the vintages since under his watch have been picked riper.

A swirl of the glass sees raspberries and Allen's red frogs burst out. A little dark chocolate pins itself to the edges showing some Wagon Wheel delight. Some blueberries, earthiness and cured meats, fine spices are sprinkled throughout the medium bodied frame. But it is the tannin that captures my attention delivering a slippery finish - one that I've seen in southern Barossa Grenache where the clay soils really take hold and impart their fine detail on the wine. Perhaps a few more years in bottle will even things out?
