A textbook contemporary Coonawarra Cabernet that combines the judicious use of oak and elegant drinking appeal ensures this Brand & Sons Yates Single Vineyard is one to embrace.
It opens with blackberry pastilles and blackberry jubes. The fruit is dense but not heavy-handed. Sprigs of mint add lift and that expected Coonawarra soil shows its hand. The oak peers through but doesn't dominate, yet it offers an insight into where some bottle age will take it. Hazelnuts wriggle their way forward late with a lick of mocha for good measure before dusty tannins coat the palate from coast to coast. It continued to build terrific momentum over a few days of tasting. Patience will reward, or equally, a long decant. All up, it's very well done.
