The top wine in the Bloc Wines range, The Patrick is only produced in exceptional years. From old Grenache vines in Marananga, this is quite a rich wine.
The more I looked at this wine, the more the word "sweetness" continued to echo in my mind as it kept stealing my attention.
Opening with boiled lollies, red frogs and those lollies formally known as Redskins, the fruit was obviously picked very ripe. I suspect if the picking regime were adjusted, things would change in its favour. The jammy fruit has a spicy tail that leaves a trail of warmth in its wake. Tasted alongside some other Barossa Grenache wines, this one was sadly off the pace. But if you like volume and sweetness, perhaps this is your weapon.
