A bit of a head scratcher, this Hesketh Small Batch Chardonnay seems a little discombobulated, lacking the flow and shape I'd expect from this producer. You can't win them all I suppose...
100% whole bunch fermented, it sees French oak (25% new) for nine months.
Quite firm, it dials in on the yellow fruit spectrum. Struck match, buttered popcorn, Jersey caramel sweetness and caramel drops add interest, but the fruit doesn't seem completely committed to the task. I looked at this over a few days as I waited for it to come around, but not so. It's somewhat of an outlier because its predecessors have come across much better. Sadly, this time around, you can do better for the money.
