From the Rocche dell'Annunziata sub-region in La Morra comes this medium-bodied Barolo from Rocche Costamagna.
From a 3.2 hectare site, it sees large format Slovakian oak for 18 months.
Violets and red cherries set the tone with an earthy drive. The savoury profile builds nicely with tar, tilled earth, orange peel, balsamic and a little mint all putting their shoulder to the wheel. Dark chocolate makes a late run along with some pan juices and cured meats before sheets of fine, drying tannins take control of a long, moreish finish. This will age comfortably for many years yet and I suggest hold for a few years before indulging.
