Hoddles Creek Syberia Chardonnay 2020

I saw a lot of excellent Chardonnays over the last few days when travelling around the Yarra Valley and this was right in the groove. A few more prestigious brands would be charging much more than the current asking price. Leap in and treat yourself.

From their highest vineyard perched at 230 metres, the rows run east-west and Frano D'Anna says the overhead sun is the key to maintaining even ripening. Whole bunch pressed, white-fleshed stonefruit and lemon juice reach for your attention. Delicate with a curvacious savoury drive highlighted by ginger, some vanilla quietly whispers to you. A minerally drive sits at the core as the lemon juice and grapefruit keeps a neat tempo. It's a shame I was in a rush, I would have guzzled a glass. Probably more. Just brilliant!

Drink to eight years.
